Let me start by saying ...

Let me start by saying that I have purchased every one of the five Sierra reloading handbooks that have been published. I have found them to be an accurate, thorough and extensive body of data and the new 5th Edition is no exception. What is particularly significant about the new edition is that both rifle and handgun data are under one cover, this to me is a plus. Conspicuously absent in the new edition under the Exterior Ballistics tab is the extensive trajectory-velocity-energy charts of previous editions. This information is available through other sources and, if included would make an already very thick book even thicker. Still, I feel it will be missed by those who appreciated it's usfulness. Overall the treatment of individual cartridges is fairly complete, with most , if not all of the current crop of factory rounds covered. Many of the most popular, and a fair number of the more esoteric, wildcats are also included.The only absentees to the pages are the very new Winchester Super Short Magnum shells (223 & 243 WSSM) and, surprisingly, the 7mm Remington Short Action Ultra Magnum. Also missing is it's big brother the 7mm Rem Ultra Magnum. One new section under the 'Reloading' tab that will be of interest to the many Garand, M1A and AR-15 shooters is the 'Gas Gun Reloading' feature. It is 17 pages of insightful information on thesefirearms. Now, two small criticisms; the pages are not quite the quality of paper of the previous editions. They don't have the "slick" coating of old, which always felt moreexpensive. The other is that the punched holes for the 3 ring binder sometimes are too close to the edge and breakthroughs occur. Be ready with your gummed reinforcementsMy overall rating is four stars only because of the few deficiencies found. Nothing is perfect and until that comes along, I feel 4 stars is my best rating. This reference has been my reference library over the years. I think I've had four of these things and this is the most current.

It's getting a bit large what with all the historical reloads. Since I only reload for a few selections it might be nice to be able to order a specialized seletion of the loads with which I work. That way the provided volumn would continue to retain the balistic characteristics to which I refer.

This data book is full of good info, unfortunately nothing I could use in it. This manual does not have reload data for Hodgdon H414 powder for the three calibers I reload. In fact, it hardly has data for this fine powder at all. My calibers are .22-250 Rem., .257 Roberts and .30-30 Winchester. I guess I can try some other powders, but I really wanted to find a good common powder for all three. I recommend if you are interested in this manual, research the data before buying it.

If you are going to shoot Sierra Bullets you best have their manual. Good bullets & good prices. It covers a lot of loads although it may not be as current as some because of the number of new cartridges recently. Also, because it does cover a lot, it is a little hard to handle because of its size.

I love the information in this manual. It is way better than any other I've used. I'm not a big fan of the 3 ring binder as a few of the pages have torn, but the info in the book is great. Sierra lists the most accurate load as well as the suggested hunting load, lots of info on ballistics...way better than any other manual I've seen.

This is a nice looking book and its best attribute is the pages can be taken out to copy, fax or just to have hanging on a nail near your press. This is also its short comming. If I were going to advise anyone to get this very nice book I would also advise them to go to a department store and get several packages of the little doughnut stick on paper savers to help keep the binder rings from pulling threw the paper and sit down and put them on every page. This book has a wealth of informatation and I do not regret buying it. Hats off to Sierra!!!

I really like the 3 ring binder format of this book. Makes keeping your loading area clutter free a lot easier when working. I bought this to update my load book from Sierra was working off of #3. Found loading for a problematic 308 with 150 GKBT's and worked it up. Wonder of all wonders it worked out great. I really like Sierra Products across the board.

This book has plenty of load data and a brief historical account for each cartridge and a very good selection of useful powders-usually more than my Hornady 7th edition, but I have to play with load profiles a little since I use more Hornady bullets than Sierra, and the load outs usually vary between them. I really like that it's a three ring binder sectioned out and lays flat on the table-even light breezes don't move the pages about like they do with a couple of my other books, and it only cost about $3 more. Rate it on what it is-not what it isn't!!

I do not use the calibers ...

I do not use the calibers that people below me have said the book does not contain, so I can't speak for the "missing data". But for me this is the best manual I own. The amount of detail they put in to this is crazy. And the 3-ring binder format let's me take out a page and keep it with me or add pages if I need to. If you like using Sierra bullets this is THE book for you.

Did you guys realize the manual was published in 2003? Were any of those calibers available back then? I think not. The Sierra 5th Ed. is one of the best reloading manuals for rifles and probably the best exterior ballistic manual you can buy. I have both the 4th & 5th Ed. and will purchase the 6th Ed. when released.

Only bought this for info on 6.8mm SPC and 45 GAP. No data for either caliber. Not happy! These calibers are widely used and have been out for years. Looks like I'll be switching to Speer.
